I can't figure out Facebook

I just joined Facebook and I can't figure out how to use it. I have messages but when I try to read them, it just takes me to a page that asks me to select my gender, star sign, and type my name and phone number. It says it will tell me who has a crush on me if I type the pin that is sent to my phone. I just want to read the message and this seems pretty cheesy. But I followed the directions and it's still not working. What am I doing wrong? So far, Facebook is just annoying.

Facebook is a networking and advertising tool, as near as I can figure it. A lot of the "you have a message!" notifications are ads, not Facebook notifications. Messages on Facebook itself will be in your Inbox or on your Wall (click on "Home" and there will be tabs on the page that have "Wall" or "News" and "Info", etc.).

I'm on Facebook as well, if you'd care to add me. But I'm afraid I'm not all that interesting, just randomly commenting on cats, bread, and baking ventures mostly. I should throw up a bunch of pictures soon.

Willy-nilly stupid 'applications'. Facebook has these stupid 'applications' that are nothing but meme viruses. Some idiot succumbs and tells it to send a message to all of his or her friends, and poof you're tagged. And, of course, reading the message requires you to opt-in to the application, which will then ask you the same question.

Near as I can tell it's bunch of stupidity. I hate that aspect of Facebook.

A lot of it is just figuring out what is ad/spam and what is actual facebook application.

Anyway, I'm sheer-facebook@sheer.us on facebook if you want to friend me ;-)

Hope all is well.
