For example, Australia, which probably inherited imperial ambitions from its metropolis, considers nearly half of Antarctica as its possession. The claims of a number of countries are completely unfounded. For example, Norway claims that the Peter I Island, which was discovered by the Russian expedition under Mikhail Lazarev and Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen, belongs to her.

Antarctica is surrounded by a veil of mystery. Many people know about the "New Swabia" - the III Reich's attempt aimed at consolidating in Antarctica and about the expedition under U.S. Rear Admiral Richard Byrd, which was sent in 1947 to detect whether there was the German's base or not. For some mysterious reasons the operation of the American squadron was stopped at the very beginning and warships quickly headed home. The fact, that all the employees of American Antarctic research stations are the agents of CIA and other U.S. secret services, tells volumes. The UFOs have often been reported in the Antarctic area. Some scientists believe that it is in Antarctica are "wormholes" - the "tunnels" in the space-time which allow the rapid interstellar traveling.

How sick should one be before skipping lectures in university?

Inspired by the fact that I have a cold, the desire to stay in bed, and don't want to freak anyone out by coughing (SWINE FLU!).

If you got it, did you experience any side effects? Anything beyond the usual 1-2 days of iffy feeling?

Primarily concerned with the injected shot since the nasal vax isn't available in Canada yet.

Edit: Alice is starting to look less bloated! She had a bit of dirreah stuck around her anus today and when I cleaned up her face and massaged her a bit, some more started to come out a bit. I'm going to try the treatment listed on ratguide for late onset megacolon, does anyone have any experience with it? Her URI also seems to be getting under control.

I ended up getting baytril from my regular vet, who lowered the dosage, but I'm afraid no amount of baytril will help poor alice. :( It turns out she has late onset megacolon. She's a normally petite (which is a symptom I thought nothing of, she's smaller than her littermates) ratty who has swelled up to the size of an orange in her abdomen area. As you all know, rats will only ever get sick at the most inconvenient times possible. No vets are open tonight.

I'm almost tempted to do the home remedy of making co2 gas(I've seen it suggested by a stupidpetowners comm member), but I don't think I could do that to my little girl. Tomorrow I'll be taking her in to be euthanized I guess, if the vet that is open does it humanely. She hasn't pooped or eaten in 4 days, I even tried to force feed her some soft stuff.

If anybody is going to be buying jewelry, I thought I should let you know not to buy from Zales. Zales is giving some of their proceeds to Autism Speaks. I don't plan on buying any diamonds anytime soon, but some of you might be. I saw this on a TV commercial earlier tonight. Most people still think they are doing a good thing trying to wipe what we are off the planet. Or they don't know that is their intent. I would like to think the latter, that most people wouldn't support their actual agenda, but I know better. I would like to know what other brands support them. Also, it would be a good idea to write them (and any other companies that support Autism Speaks) and tell them why they should not support that organization.

For those of you who had your tonsils out as an adult: What do you wish the people around you had known before hand or done while you were healing?

My girlfriend goes in to have hers removed in just under 4 hours (if it matters, she's getting her adenoids out, too). I'm looking for tips on how best to take care of her, past what's already on the recovery papers. Her mom is going to be here for the first 36 hours or so post-surgery, so I won't be alone. We already have tons of mushy foods and know that she's going to be extremely doped up and on serious pain killers. What else do I need to know/be aware of/be prepared for?

i was writing a paper for a leadership philosophy class, and the topic of this paper was to write about something that you consider to ALWAYS be morally or ethically wrong.

for instance; torture, which is normally considered morally wrong, could be considered morally ok to gain information from terrorists about a planned attack. (just an example, not my opinion)

so, AMA, what are you thoughts? what do you consider to ALWAYS be morally and ethically wrong, no matter the circumstance?

I have a question for any readers who have used Monistat 7 for a yeast infection. I have the pack with the long plastic applicators that you fill with cream then inject like a tampon-like syringe. I just used it and could not get it far inside of me AT ALL. The edge of the applicator hurt very badly, in fact. It felt like it was scraping the walls of my vagina, so I just relaxed as much as I could, made sure my NuvaRing was as far as I could get it, and still just got the applicator in only a little bit. Most of the cream even ended up just pushing out right away :(

Do any of you have any tips or similar stories?

I have a prescription for Loette, & i've been taking it for about 5 months now. I got my prescription while I was living in Italy, given to me by a doctor that worked in the embassy there. I'm now back in the states & am wondering what to do about it. Will I have to do more tests & get a new prescription, or is it likely that they can just transfer it to the American equivalent of Loestrin?

When it comes to friends (someone you consider a best friend specifically), how much can you take before you call it quits?

I'm not talking about boyfriend/girlfriend stealing or stuff like that. I'm talking about being flakey with plans ("forgetting" or getting too drunk to even bother contacting you), insincerity, etc. (Things on that wavelength). To the point where you just question everything and get angry and very disappointed with them.

How much can you deal with before deciding they really aren't good enough to be your friend?
I ask because I realize a relationship like that could be considered "toxic"... right?

First off, being the genius that I am, I threw away the information that came with my diaphragm after glancing through it only briefly. So today, after I'd already forgotten about it hanging out in my vagina, I also realized I did not know how to clean it.

Since it's silicone, I'm guessing I can clean it the same way I would my menstrual cup: soap, water, and letting it air dry. Yes? The reputable sites I'm Googling suggest this is the case, but I just wanted to double check here.

Also, does anyone know about the suitability of cotton corduroy for the top fabric in cloth menstrual pads? Apparently, with my post-Mirena flow, I still do not have enough pads unless I want to do laundry twice a day during my period. And appropriately themed cloth pads are key to keeping me amused by rather than frightened of the amount of fluid I lose during them. (Read: I currently have a hate-hate-fear-hate relationship with my period. Getting to bleed on cool-looking pads does a little to mitigate that fear and hate; therefore, this is kind of a big deal to me.)

Because I'm incredibly picky, I've had problems finding a cotton print or flannel that I like well enough. I found some cotton corduroys that I did like, but I wasn't sure if they'd work sufficiently well. They're 100% cotton, so I think they'd still be fairly breathable and absorbent; the ones I saw also felt as soft as cotton flannel, so I think they'd still be comfortable.

Has anyone ever actually used cotton corduroy for cloth pads, or would I be embarking on another Fun Vagina Experiment if I tried this?
